Nascetta is a rare white revived by Piedmont. Once near extinction, it is a characterful white known to those in the know. Here is its character and how to enjoy it.
What is Nascetta
Nascetta is a white grape of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy. Hard to grow, it faced extinction in the mid twentieth century but has been splendidly revived in recent years. A semi-aromatic grape (moderately fragrant), it gains depth with bottle age, making a white with real dimension.
Flavor profile
A bright straw color with aromas of herbs like sage and thyme, white flowers, and citrus. It has firm acidity and minerality; fresh when young, it grows more complex as it ages.
Food pairings
It pairs well with seafood, poultry, and herb-driven dishes. Being aromatic, it also suits slightly flavorful starters.
A note on serving
Serve well chilled (around 6 to 9C). For aged examples, raising the temperature a little reveals the depth of the aromas.
