Italian Wine You Explore, Not Just Buy: Signorvino's Expansion and the Swirl View

July 1, 2026Federico Fanelli0 comments

Signorvino, one of Italy's most popular wine shops, is expanding its store network in a big way. According to the Italian wine trade outlet Wine Meridian (June 24), it will open seven new stores in 2026 in Udine, Vicenza, Milan, Padua and Naples, pushing its footprint toward fifty locations.

Several of the new sites are landmark historic cafes. The bet is not to win on discounts or sheer range alone, but to put wine back at the center of urban social life: a place to buy, yes, but also to taste and to talk. This is experience-led retail.

The Swirl View

I have followed Signorvino for a decade. It grew out of the wine passion of the owner of Calzedonia, the Italian apparel group, and that passion is still at its core.

This shop has genuinely helped Italian wine lovers refine their palate and step beyond their home region and their comfort zone. Customers in Japan are often surprised to hear it, but Italians themselves once knew relatively little about the vast variety beyond their own areas. Wine has always been a deeply local product.

At Signorvino, though, you can see and buy wines from all over Italy in one place, the way it has long been normal in markets like Japan or the United States. That is why, when friends or clients visit Italy without time to travel between regions and wineries, this is the shop I always recommend.

Swirl wants to offer that same experience. In our online shop you can compare regions from Tuscany to Sicily to Sardinia in one place, browsing Italy's wine regions side by side. At our tasting events, you learn the differences glass in hand. You do not need to memorize classifications or appellation names. Drink, compare, and find your "this is the one." We want to keep that doorway as wide open as we can.

If you want to step beyond your usual bottle, try, for example, a Primitivo from Puglia in the south: a rich, smooth red full of sunshine. Or a Morellino from central Tuscany, an easygoing take on Sangiovese with bright acidity and red fruit. Change the region and the wine changes completely. That discovery, to me, is the greatest pleasure wine offers.
