The Dutchman explorer and “Map Maker” Abel Tasman was the first European to set foot in New Zealand in 1642. Another Dutchman, Ruud Maasdam, uprooted his family to New Zealand in 1996, where he founded the winery. Ruud mapped out vineyards and a life for his family in the South Pacific, Aotearoa. Due to this pioneer activity he felt the connection with his famous connational explorer, therefore,  The “Map Maker” label depicts both their travels and Ruud’s journey to make exceptionally vibrant Marlborough wines.
