La Morra / Piedmont · Italy
About the Winery
Alessandro Rivetto is a winery based in La Morra, Piedmont. Against the backdrop of the Rivetto family's grape-growing history dating back to 1902, Alessandro founded his own winery, producing Barolo and Barbaresco on the UNESCO World Heritage hillsides using only fruit from his 16 hectares of estate vineyards.
His first release was the 2012 vintage of Barolo. Guided by a philosophy of respect for terroir and patience, he devotes himself to drawing out the true character of Nebbiolo. Annual production is around 180,000 bottles.

Interview
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your winery.
My family started producing wine in 1902. Eight years ago I left the family business to create my own cellar and brand. Today I have 16 hectares between the areas of Barolo and Barbaresco, plus some vineyards near Alba and in the village of Sinio. Total production is about 180,000 bottles every year. The wines: Langhe Arneis, Langhe Nascetta, Moscato, Alta Langa, Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Barbaresco and Barolo. My team includes Mauro Adriano, Alberto Perino, Cristina Tibaldo, Ercole Rivetto and Alessandro Bonelli.
How do you normally enjoy drinking wine?
I like to drink wine with my friends. I drink little, but good wine. I enjoy it because, when I drink, I breathe the essence of nature.
Where is your winery located and what are the unique features of wines from your location?
The winery is in La Morra (Frazione Annunziata). This place is very important because it is one of the eleven villages where Barolo can be produced from the Nebbiolo grape. It is also a key area because it sits in the core zone of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
How does local history and culture influence your lifestyle and winemaking?
I pay a lot of attention to my past and traditions, trying to correct the mistakes of those who came before me with everything that science and technology now allow me to know.
What is your best memory of winemaking, so far?
My best memory is every October, when I walk into the winery and smell the wonderful aroma of the new wine.
Can you tell us about the first wine you ever made?
The first wine I produced at my winery was Barolo 2012, our first vintage, made with Nebbiolo grapes from the village of Serralunga d'Alba.
Tell us what wine represents for you.
The happiness of being able to wake up every morning.
What do you think about the future of sustainable winemaking?
I think we should listen to our hearts and our love for nature, choosing a personal path suited to each of our wines.
