When you are not sure what to give an important business partner in Japan, give wine. It is something they can enjoy and share, it never feels like an obligation, and the memory of a good bottle lasts far longer than the gift itself. Sending one from overseas to a partner in Japan makes the gesture even more memorable.
On this page we have gathered only highly rated wines, the same bottles you will find on the lists of the best restaurants in Tokyo. The gift box, the wrapping and the message card are all handled by us. All you do is choose a wine and enter the delivery address. We take care of the rest.
Why wine is the ideal business gift
A business gift is about respect, and about getting the distance just right. Wine does both, naturally.
- Elegant, without putting your partner on the spot. You can choose anywhere from a few thousand yen to the ten-thousand-yen range to suit the relationship.
- You give the pleasure of opening, and a moment to share. The experience of enjoying it with someone becomes part of the gift.
- The story of the region becomes a conversation. The background of each bottle, from Italy or Napa, is an easy talking point.
- It fits Japan's gift-giving culture. It works just as well for a seasonal greeting as for a celebration.
Japan's gift seasons, and what a gift means here
Japan has a rich custom of giving a gift to express gratitude in a tangible way. Even in business, sending a proper gift at the turning points of the year is an important courtesy that deepens trust.
Ochugen (early to mid July) is a summer greeting sent to those who supported you in the first half of the year. Oseibo (early to mid December) is the most important gift season of all, sent with thanks for the whole year. Timing shifts a little by region, so sending a touch early is the safe choice.
There are many other moments where wine fits well: congratulations on an appointment or promotion, the opening of a new business, marking a signed contract, or a first visit (a temiyage hostess gift). You will find the meaning of each occasion, and how to choose, on our gift page. For seasonal gifts, see Ochugen wine gifts and Oseibo and Onenga wine gifts as well.
Wines loved by Tokyo's best restaurants
Swirl is an importer that buys wine directly from family wineries, mostly in Italy, and supplies restaurants here in Tokyo. The wines below are the ones chosen on those professional floors and rated highly by our customers, bottles we can recommend with full confidence.
For your most important partner
Barolo, the king of Italian wines. A prestigious red built for long ageing, with the kind of presence that suits a gift for your most important partner.
Reds that leave a lasting impression
Serramarrocco carries a remarkable story: during the Second World War the Barone di Serramarrocco helped the owner of Chateau Lafite return safely to France, and in gratitude was given vines from the estate. A Cabernet blend you can give story and all.
Napa Valley Bon Ton Red catches the eye with a label that looks like a vintage fashion magazine, a refined Napa red and one of our most popular bottles. A sophisticated choice for an overseas-to-Japan gift.
A safe choice with broad appeal
Langhe Nebbiolo is an elegant red made from the same grape as Barolo. It goes with almost any food and pleases seasoned wine lovers too.
Baglio di Serramarrocco is 100% Nero d'Avola, the grape that defines Sicily. With deep fruit and a soft, rounded mouthfeel, it is an easy bottle that pleases everyone, even those new to wine.
For a celebratory toast
For a new contract or partnership, reach for bubbles. Prosecco Millesimato Brut is a bright, easy-drinking sparkling wine and an established favourite.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send a gift from overseas to a partner in Japan?
Yes. You can order with an overseas-issued credit card. Just set a delivery address within Japan, and we handle everything from wrapping to delivery.
Can you add a message card and wrapping?
Yes. Choose Gift Wrapping in your cart and we will wrap the bottle in our gift box and paper. Write your message card text in the order notes at checkout. For special requests such as a noshi ceremonial wrapper, let us know in the notes and we will accommodate where we can.
What is a good budget?
As a guide: from around ¥3,000 for a first greeting or a hostess gift, ¥5,000 to ¥8,000 for someone you work with regularly or for a celebration, and ¥10,000 or more for a particularly important partner. Choose to match the relationship.
What if I do not know much about wine?
That is completely fine. Every wine on this page is a safe choice already poured in Tokyo's restaurants. If you are unsure, Serramarrocco and Langhe Nebbiolo are reds that please almost anyone, whatever their taste.
Is there a common mistake to avoid?
Assuming that more expensive always means better. What matters most is not the price but choosing a bottle that suits the person, and delivering it at the right moment for the season or occasion. Ordering with a little time to spare gives you peace of mind.
If you are still unsure which wine to choose, take a look at our gift page. We will deliver the perfect bottle to your partner on your behalf.
